Head Start Workers are Joining SEIU District 1199
Head Start workers in West Virginia and Ohio voted to join SEIU District 1199 to have a say in what goes on at work.
Working families across the country entrust their childrens' care to SEIU members. We help give kids the head start they need to be successful in life. We drive buses to transport them safely. And we keep kids off the streets and enrich their education in after-school programs while their parents are at work.
By joining together in SEIU, Head Start and childcare employees are working to improve the lives of children in our care by:
-
Providing Stable Careers for Workers
Higher wages, expanded training, improved benefits, and a voice at work translate into proper staffing levels and lower turnover rates. Kids are the big winners when they have access to experienced and well-trained workers.
-
Giving Workers A Voice to Improve Programs for Kids
Through SEIU, Head Start and childcare workers and managers work together to solve staffing and workload issues.
-
Ensuring Kids Get the Head Start They Need
SEIU works to make sure that the money allocated for Head Start, early childhood education, and childcare is spent on the children, to improve programs and expand access to Head Start, so every child gets a good head start in life.
