Study Shows Public Workers are Making Concessions
Recently, a study was released showing Ohio public workers have reduced personnel costs by more than $1 billion dollars since 2008. The report titled, Shared Sacrifices, shows public sector union members have responded to Ohio's economic crisis by agreeing to freeze wages, take unpaid furlough days, boost productivity to compensate for jobs lost and other concessions.
Jay McDonald, President of the Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio, says, "this adds credence and credibility to our side of the table that says public employees are problem solvers and not problem makers."
According to the report, the sacrifices were negotiated between labor and management through collective bargaining. In addition, collective bargaining contracts often contain provisions that directly benefit communities.
