It's Not Too Late
1199 Members Can Have Eligible Dependents' Health Care Benefits Reinstated
If you were a state employee whose dependents' health care benefits were terminated Nov. 30, you can have their health care and Union Benefits Trust dental and vision coverage reinstated prior to the summer 2010 open enrollment period - if proper documentation required for eligible dependents can be provided.
The members of the Joint Health Care Committee advocated for this pre-open enrollment reinstatement because they felt the goal of the audit - to reduce costs associated with ineligible dependents - was met.
However, they did not feel that truly eligible dependents should be punished with a half-year termination because the person carrying the insurance, for whatever reason, did not respond to eligibility verification requests.
You can review the documentation required to prove dependent eligibility at the DAS web site at: http://www.das.ohio.gov/Divisions/HumanResources/BenefitsAdministration/tabid/190/Default.aspx
